PRSSA Executive Board Information

Director of Alumni Engagement

The director of alumni engagement will serve as a liaison between the current PRSSA members and former members who are now engaged in the public relations industry as professionals.

DUTIES

  1. Maintain a database of IU PRSSA alumni

  2. Maintain and expand the alumni LinkedIn account and alumni database on Google Sheets.

  3. Work with the Co-Directors of Communications to feature one alumnus per month in the alumni newsletter and on the IU PRSSA website

  4. Initial contact person between alumni and current members when planning events (ex. Young Pros panel)

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Experience using Microsoft Excel, Google Excel and MailChimp

+ Strong communications skills

+ Strong organizational skills

Director of Programming

The director of programming and professional development will be in charge of planning and executing PRSSA events. Responsibilities include but are not limited to organizing career-focused workshops and communicating with and hosting speakers. You will work with another person to split the responsibilities of this role.

DUTIES

  1. Work with co-director and programming and professional development committee to come up with professional events on a monthly basis

  2. Communicate with all speakers or alumni taking part in these events

  3. Reserve spaces on campus to host each event

  4. Handle all logistics in planning these events

  5. Communicate with advisers and executive board goals for the year’s programming

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Experience in event planning or group programming

+ Strong communication and creative thinking skills

+ Flexibility and promptness in planning

+ Ability to work collaboratively with others

Director of National Public Relations

The director of national public relations will be in charge of keeping the relationship between Beth Wood Chapter of PRSSA at IU and National PRSSA strong.

DUTIES

  1. Alert members of National PRSSA opportunities (scholarships, job postings, webinars, resources etc.)

  2. Lead the application process for the Star Chapter Award from National PRSSA

  3. Seek out new opportunities for chapter growth

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Experience writing press releases

+ Ability to create strategic plans and envision long-term results

+ Strong communications skills and an eye for detail

+ Superior organization skills

Director of Membership

The director of membership will be in charge of sending out the weekly newsletter to

keep members up to date on PRSSA events, communicating with PRSA regarding membership questions and yearly dues, engaging members at PRSSA events and informing members about how to make the most of their membership.

DUTIES

  1. Be the main contact for members with questions, comments and concerns

  2. Aid members in paying their yearly dues (each semester)

  3. Submit twice-annual membership records to PRSSA National

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Strong writing and graphic design skills

+ Excels in communication and people skills

+ Ability to respond quickly and ethically to unexpected issues

President

The president will guide the executive board and Chapter to ensure we provide regular programming, opportunities and events for our members.

DUTIES

  1. Manage an executive board team of 11 people and about 100 members

  2. Oversee planning and coordination of monthly programs, workshops and agency tours

  3. Ensure active member participation

  4. Organize and lead weekly executive board meetings

  5. Manage student group for National Conference and National Assembly

  6. Execute interpersonal skills to ensure smooth and effective running of executive board

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Strong communications skills

+ Strong organizational skills

+ Strong leadership skills

+ Experience on executive board a plus

 

Vice President

The vice president will work alongside the president to guide the executive board and Chapter to ensure we provide regular programming, opportunities and events for our members.

DUTIES

  1. Collaborate with a board of 11 members to brainstorm and execute events aimed toward professional development for general chapter members

  2. Plan logistics for agency tours and trips (including the chapter’s annual Chicago trip and National Conference) that benefit general members' understanding of the PR industry

  3. Brainstorm and organize fundraising efforts for chapter, following fundraising goals as determined at the beginning of the semester

  4. Stand in for the president and represent the organization as needed

  5. Continue to develop the chapter’s employer relations and professional development​

  6. Help with programming and publicity 

QUALIFICATIONS

Director of Communications

The director of communications will be in charge of creating and scheduling social media posts for Twitter, Instagram and Facebook; updating and maintaining the IU PRSSA website with information on things like events and professional opportunities; as well as creating a content schedule regular updates on the blog. You will work with another person to split the responsibilities of this role, and it is up to you to decide how to split the duties.

DUTIES:

  1. Curate relevant content to reach our ideal audience and promote chapter events

  2. Manage social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)

  3. Monitor, listen and respond to users in a “social” way

  4. Manage the general PRSSA email account and respond to inquiries

  5. Create graphics for social posts

  6. Create a schedule for blog posts and keep the blog updated

  7. Keep the website up-to-date

QUALIFICATIONS

+ Experience using Twitter, Facebook, Wix and Instagram

+ Experience with HootSuite a plus

+ Strong communications skills and an eye for detail

+ Some basic graphic design skills
