Meet our PRSSA President, Sydney Heile!
Sydney is a senior pursuing a journalism degree with a concentration in PR and minors in marketing and Spanish.
She’s currently the social media director for the Career Development Center where she runs the CDC's social media platforms and monitors online student engagement to better maintain its digital brand. More recently, she became the game day communications intern for the Indianapolis Colts where her responsibilities include: setting up the Press Box, tracking player participation and recording/transcribing press room interviews.
Sydney wanted to become more involved in PR outside of the classroom which prompted her to join PRSSA. She also believed this was a great opportunity to meet fellow PR students like herself. She found that agency PR and public affairs are the sectors of PR that she is drawn to the most.
After graduation, Sydney hopes to move to Chicago to work in an agency.
In her spare time, Sydney enjoys reading, attending sporting events with friends, going to movies (she highly recommends “Crazy, Rich Asians”!), and attempting to cook for herself.
Her advice to students who are looking to jumpstart their PR career during their undergrad? Join PRSSA!
“Is that too much of a plug?” Sydney asks. “But in all honesty, reading industry publications and getting as much experience as you can is so important. Whether you’re joining a PR club, getting a part-time communications job, or interning, you just have to jump in. Public relations is such a diverse field and you’ll never know where to start until you explore a bit!”
