2019 IU PRSSA Chicago Agency Tour

By: Alayna Wallace

IU PRSSA traveled to Chicago, Illinois, for an agency-filled weekend, visiting Edelman, BCW, Golin, Res Publica, Ketchum, and FleishmanHillard. Each space was impressive in its own realm, many of which hosted snack bars, open floor plans, and a relaxed office culture. But it wasn’t just the office perks that resonated with each student. Instead, the most impressive aspects were the time and attention each agency dedicated to creating an enjoyable and educational experience for all.

A private tour of Dan Edelman’s office, a catered lunch at Res Publica and a diverse IU alumni panel at Golin were just a few of the highlights of the agency tours. But a trend among all was the high number of professionals eager to advise, connect, and support those transitioning into the workforce.

After a jam-packed day, various IU alumni joined the Beth Wood Chapter for a delicious dinner at Cantina Laredo. Although professional advice was shared and discussed, the conversations covered more than surface-level topics. Sharing IU stories, discussing mutual friends and tidbits about the industry, the alumni connections we made were strong.

For those of us in the PR industry, there’s always been an emphasis on building and maintaining relationships, whether that be with our publics, clients, or co-workers. This trip further demonstrated the importance of quality connections. There is power in the relationships you build, sharing your passions for Indiana University, agency life and more specifically, public relations, with others.

This opportunity allowed us, young professionals, to feel embraced by our future industry and showed us that people who were once in our shoes are more than willing to help ease the transition.

Thank you to all of the agencies involved for an unforgettable experience!
