2020 IU PRSSA Chicago Agency Tour

By Michal Spanjer

IU PRSSA members explored Golin, Ketchum, Hawthorne Strategy Group, Fleishman Hillard, and Edelman during the annual Chicago agency tour last weekend. From Edelman’s breathtaking 63rd floor city views to Golin’s uniquely modernized office design, the workspaces amazed the aspiring public relations professionals.

Each agency described its history and mission and gave students a chance to ask questions about work life and the hiring process. Recruiters gave students tips for making their resumes unique and professional, and other professionals were more than willing to answer questions and act as resources for students in the future.

After touring the first agency of the day, students enjoyed lunch at Hawthorne Strategy Group, a small agency in the Chicago Board of Trades building, where the founder and the CEO met with the group.

Students had a bit of free time after agency tours to explore the city before they met back with IU alumni for dinner at Cantina Laredo, where the professionals reminisced with students about their own IU experiences and offered advice for transitioning into agency life after college.

The trip also happened to align with a Media School alumni-student reception at Maggiano’s on Thursday night, which granted students the opportunity to meet other media professionals in Chicago while enjoying a wonderful dinner buffet.

Throughout the trip, agency professionals embraced students and revealed a preview into what their lives may look like after graduation. The connections students made during the time they spent in Chicago will help them as they embark on their own public relations paths.

Thank you to all of the agencies for an exciting and informative trip!
